Nikki continued talking, but I wasn’t listening. Cold realization flashed in my brain like lightening striking a tree.

Jessica Black. It was the name on the email Melissa had put in front of me that day she visited our offices. The day she dropped a nuke on all my dreams of a life with her, when she revealed my former “mentor,” her ex-husband Sloan Reynolds’s secret double-life. Nikki was still reminiscing as I spun around in my chair, shaking my computer awake. Fingers flying over the keys, I pulled up all the information I could find on the dead girl.

Review:

ONE TO PROTECT is quite possibly my favourite book in the series so far. Now, don't get me wrong, I adored the other two but there was something about this one that was different. Tia, as usual, manages to completely draw you into the story from the very first page, and everything just flows perfectly. I had such high hopes for this book and she definitely didn't let me down.

So, what did I love about it? Well...my two favourite guys in a book together. What's not to love?? This time around I definitely noticed a development in Derek and Patricks relationship. They have always seemed wary of each other before, never quite trusting, but now, I'm seeing a bromance forming! They still had their serious moments, but there was a lot more teasing, joking around, and now a mutual respect between the work partners. Also, I have to point out that they are both still deliciously sexy!!

The storyline was fast-paced, gritty and had me on the edge of my seat more than once. It also had those sweet, tender moments between Derek and Melissa that I love, but those two can also get down and dirty when they want to!! Tia Louise writes some of the best sex scenes I've read. She makes them sensual yet HOT, without all the unnecessary smut.

For someone who hasn't read any books by this author yet, I would say "Do it right now!" Although ONE TO PROTECT is part of a series and they all centre around the same characters, each book is a standalone and has a happy ever after!! Yay! What more could you want?

Hot guys? - Check & Check
No cliffhangers? - Check

These books have everything you could possibly want and I would highly recommend them to anyone.
 High fives to Tia for yet another fabulous story. I cant wait to read whatever comes next.

REVIEW

 

Okay, let me start by saying that I am NOT a paranormal fan. I've read a few and quite honestly, they really struggled to hold my attention. When Ker told me she was releasing a paranormal romance, my initial reaction was that of nervousness! Mainly because I enjoyed her other books so much and I was concerned that I wouldn't like it! When I think on it, that's actually unfair of me to assume I would hate it, based on my previous experiences. Anyway, I agreed to sign up for the tour, step out my comfort zone, and read MY SOUL KEEPER. So, here I am....

What did I think....? Well, its safe to say that Ker has now proven that you should never judge a book by its genre and that you really should read something different every once in a while because you might be pleasantly surprised!!

In true Dukey style, this book was full-on from the first page. No messing around, no long build-up, no unnecessary filler, she just gets on with it and doesn't let up until the very last page. I love when a book really gets you thinking too, and she certainly managed to do that on more than one occasion..

 

"It's so important to place the soul into it's new life at the right time. A human body can't withstand two souls in its vessel at once, so while the foetus is in the womb, it shares its mothers souls life force. When a baby is born, the first cry is actually the soul entering the vessel."

 

I know, right?! It really made me stop and consider all these possibilities about our souls and it kind of blew my mind a little!

 

I know I've not spoken much about characters and storyline and the reason for that is not wanting to give anything away! What I will say is this... I adored the beautiful love story that developed between Simone and Shemar. I adored the fact that all the characters you meet in the beginning play an integral part in the story, they aren't just there to make it look pretty. I adored the friendship between Simone and Leah <<that's true BFF's right there! I adored the fast paced storyline, full of twists and turns. And. I adored that it still had some of Kers trademark sexiness to it.

 

If you are a fan of Ker Dukey, take note. This is nothing at all like her other books. NOTHING. That's not a bad thing in the slightest, and if you are a true fan then the fact that it's a paranormal won't bother you at all. It really is so different, but oh so good. I'm glad that I decided to take that leap and read it because it certainly didn't disappoint. Excited to see what comes next!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shamar

Not seeing Simone all week left my craving for her unsatisfied and vibrating my blood with anticipation for when I could feed it again. New charges have kept me busy and the temptation to touch her when she was reaching out to me in her bedroom after the party nearly consumed and broke me. Distance was what I needed but now I need to see her again. I waited long enough; I have proven to myself that I’m strong and not a fool to human weakness.

Sensing her soul I appear close to her. She’s in a shop so I go to the coffee stool positioned opposite and order a drink. The girl serving me blushes when she hands me my change. I can sense her attraction to me; it radiates off her in waves and has her embarrassed because of it. I smile with a wink at her and drop the change into the tip jar. I hear her intake of breath and laugh quietly to myself as I turn and almost spill my cup onto Simone’s chest.

“Oh my go…,” she gasps and her eyes twinkle with recognition. A smile falls over her face, stilling my heartbeat. “We meet again.” Her soft musical voice flows.

“I’m sorry I nearly scalded your…” I look down at her impressive chest and back to her face, which is tinted with the pink flush from my gaze.

“Body,” I offer with a shake of my head, which earns me a giggle. It nearly floors me. Pulling a stray hair from her mouth, she watches my movements. Parting her lips, her tongue darts out to moisten them; I caress her bottom lip with the pad of my thumb, taking the hair with it across to her cheek. There’s an electrical storm erupting inside my body. Her eyes are glazed; everything around us has fallen into silence, we are the only two who exist in this moment.

My thumb retraces it journey to her mouth with a press of her lips she kisses it. My whole body crackles and tingles. She’s turned on and it magnifies my own arousal. Leaning forward without thought of consequence, I touch my lips to hers. Her body melts into mine; the taste of her red lips is like the sweetest forbidden fruit. The warmth of her tongue slips into my mouth and I meet it with my own: grasping her face deepening the kiss. Her supple body moulds further into mine, her breasts pushing against my chest, our hips pushing into each other’s. The whole world falls away and I feel like Heaven has claimed me and this is it; she is my Heaven.

“Holy shit!” a voice shouts out, ringing in my ears.

Simone pulls away, breathless, her pouty red lips still slightly open and swollen from my kiss. Her eyes roam my face with bewilderment. “That was…”

“Amazing,” I finish her sentence.

Her friend grabs her shoulders and turns her from my gaze. It breaks the spell. I notice we have gathered an audience as were standing in the middle of the mall making out like we were in a private room. She looks around and drops her face to the floor, embarrassed. Lifting her chin, I whisper, “Never look down Simone, only up.” I bring my lips to her forehead before walking away once again.
